Drilling

Chemstar has worked with the oil and gas drilling industries for more than four decades to develop a wide range of technically advanced products that provide our customers with a distinct competitive advantage.

Moreover, we actively participate in the American Petroleum Institute’s specification committees to help set international standards worldwide.

Secure with Chemstar's consistently superior quality, many customers market our starch products under their own brand names. You may select from any of the following products formulated exclusively for the drilling industry:

DrilStar® Series
DrilStar polymers are low viscosity, non-ionic corn and potato-based polymers for use in all water-based drilling, completion and stimulation fluids. DrilStar polymers are designed to provide rapid, economical filtration control in a variety of oil and gas operations with temperatures to 250o F. All DrilStar polymers meet API specifications according to Spec 13A, Section 11 and provide excellent compatibility in a wide range of saline environments. In addition, our DrilStar products are often sold under private labels. For more information regarding our DrilStar series of products, please click here.

ExStar® and ExStar® HT Series
Modified starches, such as ExStar and ExStar HT possess excellent temperature properties for specialty drilling applications. And, Exstar polymers are designed to impart filtration control and enhanced rheology with thermal stability to 300o F. For more information regarding our ExStar and ExStar HT series of products, please click here.

HydroStar®
A fluid loss control additive useful in all drilling and completion applications, HydroStar is a premium grade white pregelatinized starch. It is particularly effective in high hardness and saturated salt muds with moderate temperatures ranging from 225o F to 275o F. For more information regarding HydroStar, please click here.

StarDril®
StarDril is a non-toxic filtration control additive for drilling and completion fluids used in the Canadian drilling industry. A highly derivatized polysaccharide, StarDril is particularly suited for drilling in areas sensitive to Canadian Microtox testing issues. In addition, StarDril is acceptable for use in LWD (land spreading while drilling) operations. For more information regarding StarDril, please click here.

Starlose® Series
These treated corn and potato-based starches are particularly useful for international markets because they resist bacterial degradation. For more information regarding our Starlose series of products, please click here.

StarPak® Series
The StarPak Series consists of highly derivatized, anionic starch based polymers. They are biocide free, yet resist bacterial and enzymatic degradation. StarPak products are particularly useful for applications where conventional starches don’t work and are highly efficient fluid loss reducers. In addition, StarPak polymers display a synergy with low levels of xanthan gum and bentonite clay to provide shear-thinning fluids with excellent low-end rheology. And, these polymers are stable in a wide range of fluid systems with temperature tolerance to 315o F. Choose from any of the following StarPak products:

StarPak®
StarPak is a low viscosity polymer for use in low temperature drilling fluids and for applications where rapid fluid loss is required. It is an excellent choice for fluids where the addition of a biocide is prohibitive. For more information regarding StarPak, please click here.

StarPak® II
This more complex variation of StarPak is noted for high viscosity at low shear rates. It is an excellent choice for boosting low shear rate viscosity in xanthan-based systems. For more information regarding StarPak II, please click here.

StarPak® DP
StarPak DP works especially well in extended-reach drilling systems with xanthan or other polymers. It is a highly derivatized starch ether with filming, lubricity and excellent low shear rate viscosity. For more information regarding StarPak DP, please click here.

StarPak® Extreme
StarPak Extreme is a high temperature additive for drilling and completion fluids. It is a highly derivatized, complexed polyose. For more information regarding StarPak Extreme, please click here.
